Our water-based Repel formula is VOC-free and does not contain PFAS, PFOA or PFCs (forever chemicals). It safely creates a durable, breathable barrier that dries clear and effectively protects against liquid and dirt. Repel is safe to use on most absorbent materials including leather, suede, nubuck, canvas, cotton, nylon, knit, woven, mesh and more (Not recommended for unsealed leather or vegetable tanned leather). The non-aerosol delivery system outputs a continuous fine mist covering large areas quickly and evenly in all directions.

This product’s efficacy has proudly achieved a score of 100 (ISO 5) using the AATCC Test Method 22-2005. You can learn more about the AATCC Test Method here.

The bottle and spray applicator are fully recyclable. We encourage you to save the spray applicator and purchase the available Repel Refill when it comes time to re-up. Additionally, we proudly use Avery Dennison CleanFlake™ technology which ensures that labels and adhesive separate from PET every time, increasing the yields of pure PET flakes.

FAQ

How do I waterproof shoes with Repel?

The material should be clean and dry prior to application. Hold bottle upright 6″ to 8” from shoe, spray evenly covering the entire area of the shoe. Do not oversaturate. Use a cloth to dab and soak up any excess product. Allow to completely dry/cure for 24 hours or more. After the first coat has dried, repeat steps and apply a second coat. Before exposing to liquid, make sure shoes have completely dried.

Repel also acts as a shoe protectant spray, keeping dirt and dust from attaching and settling into your sneakers. It comes in a non-aerosol can that sprays a continuous fine mist, and it’s PFAS-free, so you don’t have to worry about breathing in any cancer-causing “forever” chemicals. Keep in mind that no product can make your shoes fully waterproof. Given enough water, they’ll eventually soak through. However, you can achieve a strong water barrier, which should be enough to keep your feet dry in everyday conditions.

Tip: The longer you allow Repel to cure, the stronger the repellency.

What shoes can I use Repel on?

Use Repel on absorbent materials like, suede, nubuck, canvas, and knits. Leathers that are sealed or have polishes on them (i.e. patent leather) are essentially already waterproof. If Repel is accidentally applied to these types of materials, simply wipe clean with a cloth before it dries.

What else can I use Repel on?

Repel can be used on a variety of apparel items. Think Levi’s denim jackets, Carhartt tote bags, New Balance 990’s, Hoka Cliftons, etc.

How long does Repel last?

Repel generally lasts 2-3 weeks. Longevity will vary depending on the amount of exposure to the elements. The best way to test the effectiveness of the Repel is to take a few drops of water and observe how well the water beads and rolls off of the shoe. If reapplication is needed, we suggest cleaning your shoes with our Premium Shoe Cleaner, allow to fully dry and to reapply Repel following the directions on the bottle.
